27, 2007 - We are still missing a good snowfall, but the trails
are do-able and I can drive 9 on most of them, sometimes with
white knuckles, but it works. The dogs are all in superb shape,
even the puppies, now 14 months and highly muscled. These are
busy days! There is still an opening on a 3 day trip, March
13, 14, 15 with a mushing school, on the 12th, into the Minto
Wildlife Refuge. Fantastic trails, arctic oven camps. We'll
make it to Old minto on the 2nd day. Email for details
November
13,2007 - A few inches of snow for about a month, using the
sled and up to 8 dogs, riders are here from all over ! The dogs
are getting stronger each day, I am so amazed at their strength.
The puppies are pulling and enjoying their job. The males, Ace
and King, are large and have figured it out easily;the females
much smaller and pull well, but sometimes turn and face me when
I'm hooking up. Hey, where are we going ? Young dog comedy.
Have an opening in a 3 day trip on March 13-15 for one person,
traveling the historic Old Mail Trail west of Nenana. Beautiful
trails. The days are getting shorter, but the moon always relects
off the snow, and during the day the white fields seem glittered
with diamonds when the sun shines. I am still thrilled to see
all this beauty after all these years.
March 1,
2007 - Temp -25F to -5F, Sunny Skies inFairbanks, AK. Hard,
fast trails. Dogs are in superb shape, and the new dogs did
17 miles the other day with enthusiasm. I've been amazed at
the transformation of several sprint dogs, my "Whippet'
boys, sleek and small-boned, into tough little distance dogs:
pulling weight and learning to trot, jumping with exuberance
when time to load everyone in the truck...no more turning around
when passengers get in the sled to ask why the driver is so
danged heavy... but they will need coats on to camp on our overnight
trip next week. And a spruce bough bed...and a whole lot of
fat to keep warm.
Feb. 28,
2007 - Temp -31F to -9F, Sunny Skies in Fairbanks, AK
